EA framework such as TOGAF, DODAF, Zachman or others together with tools like BPA, ARIS will be essential support for success of EA establishment.

BPM and technology are now inextricably linked. Today, business is not just business, it is also an integrated entity. There are no technology decisions that are not business decisions, and there are no business decisions today that don't involve technology. Much the way an investment manager dynamically manages a portfolio of financial investments, business leaders must make intelligent buy, sell, and hold decisions around their investments in information technology to optimize revenue and growth opportunities, improve customer experience, and streamline operations; when done properly, the productivity improvements and cost savings that result will positively impact the bottom line and allow us to fulfill our primary obligation: driving shareholder value.


IT Application Architecture

A system is a collection of components organized to accomplish a specific function or set of functions. The term system encompasses individual applications, systems in the traditional sense, subsystems, systems of systems, product lines, product families, whole enterprises, and other aggregations of interest; it exists to fulfill one or more missions in its environment. IT application architecture is the fundamental organization of a system embodied in its components, their relationships to each other, and to the environment, and the principles guiding its design and evolution.

An architecture includes set of significant decisions about the organization of a software system, the selection of structural elements and their interfaces by which the system is composed, together with their behavior as specified in the collaborations among those elements, the composition of these elements into progressively larger subsystems, and the architectural style that guides this organization -- these elements and their interfaces, their collaborations, and their composition.
